How to Use Bill Pay

As we all adapt to the new norm of social distancing, we want to make it easier than ever to handle your banking online. We've covered how to signup for online banking and how to use it to transfer money. Now we're ready to cover one of the most popular tools in our online platform, Bill Pay.

Bill Pay makes it easy to make payments in a matter of minutes, and because it keeps your payment information private, it makes it even safer to pay your bills online.

Not only can you use Bill Pay to pay your bills, but you can use it to easily pay an individual, too! We'll show you how to do both.

Using Bill Pay for bills

When you click into the “Bill Pay” tab, start by selecting the red “Payee” button. Select “Pay a company” and choose a frequently used payee or enter new information to add a different payee.

Next, grab a bill and type in your account information. From there, you’ll be brought to the payment page.

For bills where the amount changes monthly, such as electrical, type in the bill amount and select the payment date you want it to be paid each month.

For more consistent bills, like mortgage or rent payments, you can select “Make it recurring” to automatically pay the same amount on the same date each month. This will save you even more time in the long run.

Paying an Individual

Bill Pay can also be used to pay friends and family. Use it for splitting rent or paying back a friend after a night out. You can pay through a mailed check or by depositing directly into an account, but for this example we’re going to send it through text.

When selecting a payee, choose the “Pay a person” option this time. Click the “Email or text message” option. You’ll be prompted to enter the person’s contact information to be sure it’s being sent to the right place.

Once the information has been entered, you’ll be prompted to create a keyword to share with the payee. You can then choose to send a one-time or recurring payment to this payee.

As you can see, Bill Pay is easy to set up. Once you use it to make a payment, that information is saved, making future payments even easier. Switching your payments over to Bill Pay allows you to automate bills and pay others in a matter of minutes, putting you in control of your finances all from the comfort of your own home.
